For this post, I dug deep and found a certified Trichologist and hair loss consultant, Dabs, who doesn’t just talk the talk but walks the walk too.

Dabs was so generous to share weekly and monthly natural hair regimen along with a packed list of do’s and don’ts.

Weekly Natural Hair Regimen

Dabs washes her hair every week,  following a strict 5 step process

Step 1

Shampoo to cleanse your scalp

My recommendations:

Step 2

Use a light conditioner

Seal your ends with a Light oil. (She suggests focusing on the ends of your hair to prevent flakes.)

Monthly Natural Hair Regimen

Every month she does a thorough cleanse with another simple 5 step process.

Step 1 

Pre-poo with a hair mask

Dabs recommendation:

“Sometimes I mix with Henna or mayonnaise” she says

Step 2

Cleanse scalp. She focuses on her scalp to avoid stripping her hair. “ Use a bottle with a nozzle to target just your scalp,” she says

Step 3

Use a light conditioner to detangle and leave on for 10-15 minutes while showering.

Rinse out and repeat steps 4 and 5 in her weekly routine.

Easy Natural Hair Regimen For Massive Hair Growth


Dabs also shares a long list of dos and don’ts for growing your hair

Use a moisturising shampoo. Buy one that is free of harmful ingredients like parabens and silicon, sulfates, gluten and dyes that strip the hair and cause dryness. The shampoo should contain essential oils that help restore the hair from within.

She emphasises shampooing twice a month at the very least. 

Follow up with a conditioner. Leave the conditioner on for at least 15 minutes to activate the ingredients and absorb into the hair shaft.

Use a deep conditioning mask. My hair masks contain keratin, ceramides which are great ingredients for strengthening brittle hair that breaks easily. The aim of this treatment should be to soften the hair, eliminate tangles and make the hair more manageable.

Apply on dry hair then cover with a shower cap to steam for at least 30 minutes. Proceed to cleanse or condition. Do this at least twice a month. You can add oils, honey or vegetable glycerin to it when you apply it.

Use a co-wash. I usually would use one when my hair feels dry and crunchy during the week or in between my hair mask treatments. 

Co-washing is using a conditioner to cleanse the hair but also leave it feeling soft and moisturiSed.

Use a scalp treatment. I make an oil blend scalp oil consisting of a carrier and essential oils which I use regularly and prevents dryness of the scalp, stimulates the hair follicles and helps nourish the scalp from within.

Use regularly, at least three times a week, and apply close to the hair follicles. Always apply before styling. A little goes a long way.

Use a leave-in conditioner daily. The first ingredient is water, the leave-in conditioner should also be packed with oils and moisturizing ingredients to help soften and make the hair manageable. Lightweight formulas help the product absorb easily into the hair shaft, remove tangles and make the hair cuticles smooth.

Take regular pictures to track your progress. 

Trim your hair regularly. I get a trim every three months.


Use a small comb for your hair. It should always be a wide-tooth comb or brush when detangling, detangle damp hair, not dry hair.

Sleep without a satin bonnet or pillowcase.

Braid, weave or wear wigs without considering the impact on the hairline, protective hairstyles should be truly protective and never pull at your hairline.

Skip on hair treatments. Treatments help maintain the protein moisture balance in your hair.

Advice for using wigs as a protective style

  • Have a handy hair spritz and spray your hair before and after you take off your wig to keep your hair very moisturised.
  • Avoid putting the wig on ur hairline
  • Invest in a good quality wig, and avoid cheap lace wigs that are too scratchy if you want it to truly be a protective style

I know that was a lot to unpack, but Dabs says “I hope it helps ladies trying to grow their hair out.”
