There’s no easy way to say this but chapped lips are not sexy and you need a lip care routine to fix that
I know, because I suffered from them for such a long time. Nothing tells you you need to fix it like when you wear matte lipstick on dry lips. Arrrgh… I am cringing at the thought right now.
Our lips sometimes become such a neglected part of our body. This is why it’s so important to develop a lip care routine.
Why do my lips get dry?
Unlike the rest of our body, our lips have the thinnest skin on our entire body. and have no oil glands to keep them moisturised. This is the primary reason they are so susceptible to dryness. But that’s okay because I will show you how to change all that in a few simple steps
Drink a tall glass of water. How can you expect to have soft lips when you are not properly hydrated? Remember that what you feed your body is what it shows back to you, so keep your body nice and hydrated.
Start with a good lip scrub which will help to stimulate blood flow to your lips and make them plumper.
There are so many great lip scrubs you can buy. Some of them are:
But you can also make your DIY version with ingredients like rosewater and sugar [Priyanka Chopra’s favourite recipe] or honey and sugar.
Here is my favourite recipe:
How to make a simple lip scrub
- 1 part honey
- 2 parts sugar (I love brown sugar)
Mix thoroughly with your fingers and work over your lips in circular motions. Work as hard or as gentle as you can manage. You want to scrub off the dead skin but not hurt yourself in the process
Honey is amazing for your lips. It is a natural humectant which means it pulls moisture from the atmosphere to your skin helping it to stay smooth and hydrated for much longer.
I recommend getting a good quality lip balm. I have a really great recipe on here.
A lot of lip balms are horrible for your lips. One look at the ingredients and you can immediately tell that they have no business being anywhere near your lips. Some of these culprit ingredients are mineral oil and petrolatum. Be careful ladies. use a lip balm that has natural kinds of butter like Shea, Cocoa or even Mango butter.
As an extra step, sleep with a lip mask. I know, I know, yet another product to buy. It can get all so overwhelming knowing there is a mask for your face and another for your lips. But if you trust me and try this, you won’t regret it.
The one I have been enjoying is the Laneige lip mask. It’s the ultimate night time treat for my lips as I always wake up to soft plump lips. Love Love Love it!
You can now breathe, there are no more steps. But let me quickly recap your lip care routine steps
- Stay hydrated
- Use a lip scrub
- Use a natural lip balm
- Use a lip mask
