What To Include In Your Office Toilet Cleaning Checklist

When creating a cleaning checklist, there are a few things you’ll need to consider, such as the size of your office, the number of employees, and the frequency of use.

I recommend cleaning office restrooms several times a day, but just once a day if it’s a private office that gets less use.

These are some of the most important things to include in your office cleaning checklist:

Daily Office Bathroom Cleaning Routine

When creating your checklist, you should bear in mind the number of foot traffic you get.

If the toilet is used by just you and an assistant, you won’t need to have a twice a day cleaning routine.

However high-traffic restrooms will require a lot more attention and care. These are the tasks you should pay attention to on a daily basis.

Feel free to adjust this checklist accordingly.

Morning Cleaning:

  1. Treat and clean toilets with a disinfectant cleaner and clean the toilet bowl
  2. Treat urinals, disinfect and wipe dry
  3. Clean tubs and showers if present
  4. Wipe the toilet seat and exterior and push plates
  5. Wipe down surfaces, including bathroom mirrors, sinks and countertops
  6. Refill soap dispensers, hand sanitisers, paper towels and check the toilet paper dispensers
  7. Empty all bins including feminine hygiene disposal units
  8. Mop the bathroom floors
  9. Disinfect door handles

Throughout the Day:

A public restroom gets a lot of foot traffic so cleaning should be done more than once a day.

It’s important to keep an eye on supplies, spills and dirt.

  1. Keep an eye on supplies like toilet paper and restock supplies as needed
  2. Clear the toilet floors of any waste
  3. Empty bin once they are three-quarters full
  4. Wipe down sink area
  5. Mop the floors

FAQs on Workplace Bathroom Cleaning

How often should bathrooms be cleaned in office?

As a rule of thumb, office bathrooms should be cleaned every day. But the frequency of the daily cleaning is heavily dependent on how much usage it gets. Daily cleaning will help prevent the spread of bacteria and prevent illness spreading amongst employees.

Here’s a general guideline for how often office bathrooms should be cleaned:

Daily Cleaning:
Offices should be cleaned everyday or several times a day. Some of the tasks include emptying trash bins, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning the toilets.

Weekly Cleaning:
Weekly tasks will usually include general cleaning and additional dusting, deep cleaning and more detailed disinfection.

Monthly Maintenance:
On a monthly basis, you can focus on tasks like cleaning air vents, inspecting and replenishing air fresheners, and checking for potential maintenance issues.

Annually:
Once a year, do a complete overhaul that may involve repainting walls, inspecting and replacing fixtures as needed, and grout sealing.
As mentioned before, the frequency of these tasks will vary depending on the amount of foot traffic you get.

How long should it take a cleaner to clean a bathroom?

As a rule of thumb, it should take cleaning staff about 30 minutes to clean an office bathroom.

However, the length of time it takes a cleaner will vary depending on a number of factors like the size of the office bathroom, how often it gets cleaned, the tools available, the type of clean and even the type of cleaner.

For instance, a professional cleaner with lots of experience might not take as long as someone who is new to the job. Here’s a general guideline for how long it might take a professional cleaner to clean a standard office bathroom:

Basic Cleaning (Quick Touch-up):
A quick touch-up clean for a small to medium-sized bathroom should take around 10 to 15 minutes.

Regular Cleaning (Thorough Clean):
For a more thorough daily cleaning, a cleaner might take around 20 to 30 minutes for a standard-sized bathroom.

Deep Cleaning:
A deep cleaning session, which involves more detailed tasks like scrubbing grout lines, polishing fixtures, cleaning vents, and thoroughly disinfecting all surfaces, can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or more, depending on the bathroom’s condition.

Note:
+ Larger bathrooms will naturally take longer to clean than smaller ones.

+ The experience of the cleaner plays a huge role. Experienced cleaners might complete tasks quicker.

+ If the bathroom has not been cleaned in a while or has accumulated dirt and grime, it will take longer to clean.
